The 23rd DAM J.A.M.

Pryor, Oklahoma, 6 September 2014

Here we are again in Pryor for our eighth DAM J.A.M. on our made-in-Kansas RANS Screamer.
We missed the DAM J.A.M. last year because of Carol's foot surgery, but now we're back.

It rained all day!

The police and firemen escort us out of town.

The roads around Pryor are excellent. Jim and Marie always carefully choose the routes.

The first flat. Those skinny tires don't do so well on
country roads. We've been lucky on the DAM J.A.M. tire-wise.

We go over Hudson Lake...

and into Salina, the oldest town in Oklahoma, for the Salina Spirit rest stop.

On the east side of the lake the country gets hilly and pretty. We're climbing up to Wickliffe.

More trouble for the skinny-tire people. Not for us because the Screamer is bulletproof.
It don't climb so well, but it's bulletproof.

Here we turn off into Wickliffe.

The DAM J.A.M. rest stops are the best anywhere because the people who run them are really nice.

Pickle juice! It's a hot weather tradition, but gets you going in the rain too.

Wickliffe always has a great rest stop with really nice folks.

Out of Wickliffe the road is pretty.

But soon you come to the dreaded Pump-Back Hill. See that hill where the pipes go up?

We go up it too. And it gets really steep. The Screamer isn't called
that because it screams up the hills--it screams down the hills.

Starting to climb.

We're off and pushing it long before half way up.

Steeper than ever.

The top at last.

There are always people around to rescue you if you have trouble.

Even a dinky rest stop is good after that killer hill.

Here we go across where the water runs both in and out of out of Chimney Rock Lake.

We were too scared to take pictures on the two-mile twisty-turny scary-steep downhill
from Chimney Rock Lake to 82 Highway because the road was wet and the rain was in our
eyes and the wind was in our ears and we were screaming down really fast and the Screamer
is not a stable bike. Here's the Boy Scout rest stop outside Locust Grove.

We're back in Pryor at last, all wet and cold, and there's our red truck! It isn't foggy--the camera is just wet.

Fifty-four miles in the rain. And with no fenders.

Are my legs really that skinny?

Loading up the bike. We bought the truck to fit the bike.

We made a thingy to keep the bike from tipping.

We strap it in.

Done at last, and we're off to the Dutch Pantry in Choteau for another great Amish home-cooked meal!

Every year we get a new shirt for our DAM J.A.M. collection.
